(More customer reviews)I use this for scuba diving to secure my scuba console (Sherwood SPG, compass, and depth gauge) when I'm not using it. It isn't very strong on the surface, but works great underwater. My console is fairly heavy but the retractor does an adequate job on the surface keeping my console from dangling. The weight of the console pulls the tether out a few inches, but seems to hold in place. Underwater this isn't an issue and retracts fully back to the housing.
The previous tether I had was one of those phone cord types and it just created a mess. This solved the problem and keeps everything together without any tangling.
